Tuesday

Today we worked at the Klopfenstein house -sanding exterior doors, assembling kitchen drawers, hanging kitchen wall cabinets, sanding door frames, etc. We plan the jobs that require electric for the morning, and work on the other jobs in the afternoon.

At this point, we  just have Bosley, Osman, and Sony working with us. There were many Hatians working last week, as they sanded the whole outside of the house as well as the rebar on the windows. The rebar was painted and they are working on the whitewash.

Rudy and I moved down to the guesthouse Sunday evening. Mona had asked Sheila eho was leaving with the team and who was staying (there had been a variety of people in and out over the last couple of weeks). When Sheila told her that we would be around for 2 more weeks, Mona said that we WOULD move down from the hotel. That made us feel good that she wanted to have us around.

Dr. Morquette (I asked him for the correct spelling) has been so interesting to talk with.  He has such a passion for his country and the people.  He also has a sincere love for Jesus,  his savior and Lord. We have asked him many questions, and I feel like I am beginning to understand the Hatian people a bit better.

I asked him if he felt Christianity was growing in Haiti, and he said no- in numbers yes, but in true understanding no. He used the following example: he was praying with a man about his financial need - there was no food in the house, nothing to provide for his family- and Dr Morquette's wallet was left accidentaly. Well, the man would consider that as a provision from God. He would not consider it stealing, or think he should return it- God had provided it. The Hatian s feel that everything happens because God wants it that way and they are not motivated to change. If they are poor, it is because God wants them to be, etc.

Marlene Mueller is with us for a few days while her husband eorks eith the SEED program. She shared that they are exploring the idea to have a dairy project here. Dr. Morquette became teary-eyed. He shared that he can remember from his childhood the abundance of mikk and cheese and yogurt, and now there is very little dairy products, and it is all imported. He has been praying gor this for a long time. We will pray that it works out; they were trying to find suitable land. Most of it is owned by people outside the country and many do not want to sell.
